Full Moon Cancer, Saturday, January 14, 2006, 1:48 AM PST

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Capricorn perpetuates the hard (so-called) truth of reality, in the reflective threadbare light of mid-January. New Years promises we did or didn’t make are in their last week as the Sun soon moves from steadfast Capricorn to change maker Aquarius.

Resolve. The New Years resolution has lost its allure in America- maybe the new American dream has tricked us that with enough self-improvement we will be given the glamorous prize. Miracle drugs, eternal, youth, love and beauty have delivered the annual resolutions, empty. Celebrity, America’s Gods and Goddesses have even become jaded. Jennifer Aniston was quoted as saying she has stopped making resolutions. Beware of disenchanting fairytales and their messengers!

Like an expose reporter with her flashlight, full moons are usually snapshots of where we are already headed, the path becoming clearer for the extra light. But this full moon illuminates the beginning of another cycle, the motion of Venus, the Very, Very Good Love Witch.

Venus rising. Just a few days before this full moon, Venus retrograde in Capricorn began a 260-day path of rising just ahead of the Sun each morning. So we are reflecting on our relationships and looking to those for stability, substance and really seeing in them measurements of our worth. We may be sad about what isn’t measuring up, the losses we’ve suffered in the past or frustrated by whatever is blocking us from love, beauty, pleasure and inspiration. Sometimes Venus will undermine us with self-deceptive behavior- undercover love affairs, excessive spending, eating or drug use. This is what happens when the love Goddess isn’t satisfied and this most sensual Goddess must be fed! The ancients knew this was the time to make sacrifices to Venus. We don’t have to make a literal sacrifice but we can use the occasion to strengthen our Venus in healthy ways, because we’re seeding a new cycle of expression in our self-worth, beauty, art, relationship that we carry with us for 584 days. Imagine the painting you paint today will hang on your forehead for at least that long. Whether you consciously do the painting, or do not, it’s happening. This is the power of seeding a cycle, so take advantage of the awareness.

Right now, there’s no denying that you have a heart song and its deepest desires must be sung. Simply, feel into her. This is a romantic love song, full of yearning and perhaps unexpressed passion. These are variations on a theme: unrequited love or a love song looking for a home, yet uncertain of the future, or love’s time having passed. The song may sound hollow or regretful, as though you’re singing down a long, empty hallway. This is Venus singing her plaintive love march, very unhappy that she’s displeased. If you’re suffering, know you have aphrodisiac you seek. Seek the positive intention behind your behavior or sadness and use your urge for love to take the necessary steps to love yourself differently this time. What are those steps? Listen to your heart.

Knowing that the seed is only as good as its soil, Cancer/Capricorn rule the memory and ingrained patterns accumulated over time. What was influenced by our early conditioning, those needs met and unmet, the values and habits we either consciously sorted through or unconsciously run. If we’re in a love relationship right now, the Creator is giving us a birds’ eye view into how successfully we’ve differentiated from our parents, whether or not we’ve left home. Contrary to pop thinking, it takes time, maturity wisdom and reflection, the positive face of Capricorn, to earn freedom from those patterns that block our capacity for joy, love and happiness. The level of freedom, or success of our differentiation may be measured by “an increased capacity to enjoy, take pleasure in company with others; an ability to listen carefully to each other with the intent of understanding; following through on agreements; the ability to clear the air and let go; an increasing ability to maintain one’s identity and be close to one’s partner simultaneously; the ability to make a heartfelt commitment to a relationship…”and so on. *

The Full Moon picture tells a story about finding contentment amidst too many obligations, moving into uncharted waters and the iPod shuffle of breaking new ground in relationship and this brand new life. The expose extra asks you to feed the Goddess, feed her empty belly new relationship values, new forms of art, titillating pleasures and erotic sensuality. This is the heart’s song, and it must be sung.

New Moon Day, 1/14
Moon in Cancer, then Leo 1:31 PST
Moon Mood:
Cancer, Walk by the water, rearranges your furniture, put together your favorite recipes, eat shellfish soup
Leo, Take a friend to a play, attend an art class, be flamboyant, treat yourself to a small luxury

1/15
Moon in Leo; Mars in Taurus oppose Jupiter Scorpio
MA/JU: This has been culminating since the end of November, meeting again around Christmas and finally, now. The mover and shaker Mars, the planet of action, energy meets the planet of expansion and growth. Yes, this has been a wonderful catalyst for many of us, perhaps creating ‘tipping point’ situations where we must Act Now! Likewise, we may feel a classic case of overwhelm, overextension. Mars in Taurus, a simple, straightforward, practical approach is the only way to proceed, even though longstanding, entrenched situation are popping up like little water spouts. Remember that the goal is to expand beyond your reasonable limits, you’ve probably already experienced some of the serendipitous luck this duo has brought since November. http://australiasevereweather.com/techniques/moreadv/funnels.htm

1/16
Moon in Leo

1/17
Moon in Virgo; Mercury conjunct Venus in Capricorn
Moon mood: start your diet*, order more nutritional supplements, organize your workspace. *Diets- it’s always better to start diets when the moon is waning, as it’s losing light you’re literally losing weight. From new to full, you will gain more weight even if you eat the same number of calories as you do from full to new.
ME/VE: Mercury, planet of communication joins with Venus, love, relationships, pleasure and self-worth. We can easily voice our concerns about our Venus retrograde issues: old relationship injuries, working out the kinks, self-esteem and self-worth issues. If you need help, today’s the day to open your mouth and ask someone for a helping hand. Poets, speakers and writers find the written word at their command. It’s a wonderful day for expressing what’s on your mind and heart. Your frame of mind may be quite stark, practical (anything from finances to depression) but the ears they land on insure they’re well received.

1/18
Moon in Virgo; Mars in Taurus square Neptune Aquarius
This is the low point of the week, low energy, perhaps being at loose ends with the overwhelming task before us. Disagreements are possible; tempers may flare by simply being tired, unclear or foggy. Especially prone to feeling undermined because things aren’t going your way, the temptation is to overwork, lash out or do nothing. Don’t push the river. Step back and take some time away from the project or issue that’s driving you bonkers.

1/19
Moon in Virgo, then Libra 2:49 PST; Sun moves into Aquarius
Moon mood, Libra: make your lover a cd, paint something creative on your bedroom wall, give yourself a facial, do a kidney cleanse http://www.falconblanco.com/health/cleansing/kidney.html
Sun in Aquarius:
Ah, ode to the sun (see below). After the endurance training of Capricorn, experience the cleansing, purifying power of Aquarius. The sun shifts and so our life force is magnetized by the urge for renewal, after passing the darkest nights of winter’s solitude, our perception has been cleansed. We may experience feelings of being newly connected to friends, ideas, interesting groups. This is a hopeful time of the year and for many, dreams and aspirations take a more central role in day-to-day. And an idealistic time, as though we’re watching the sun rise and deciding, yes, I will live this day to it’s fullest. No longer just a list of resolutions, change is certain and palpable.

1/20
Moon in Libra

1/21
Moon in Libra

1/22
Last Quarter Moon in Scorpio; Mercury moves into Aquarius
Last quarters shift consciousness, so Moon asks that you take the time to dig around in your psyche. Security and intimacy fears may come up, as Attachments (fear, the past, finances) vs. Progress (breakthroughs, future visions, a better you) face off.
Moon mood: psychoanalysis or a good bonding session with a friend, do research for a project, meditate on your attachments by imagining yourself with scissors cutting invisible cords to ties that bind, admit your fears

1/23
Moon in Scorpio
Venus in Capricorn trine Mars in Taurus
VE/MA: These are the two lovers who meet with sweet amore. Even in Earth signs (which are less passionate, expressive than others) today we can be very simply, practically sensual. A good bottle of wine, a nice meal with the one we love. Don’t overdo it; make it simple so you’ll both be receptive to the body’s sensual signals. With Earth we think about financial opportunity and tangible resources. Shifting resources or collecting money are possible.

1/24
Moon in Sagittarius
Moon mood: hunker down in a good self-help or spirituality book, plan a trip, take a small day trip or adventure, aspire, eat from a different culture’s menu

1/25
Moon in Sagittarius

1/26
Moon in Sagittarius, Capricorn 2:31 PST; Mercury in Aquarius conjunct Sun
Moon mood, Capricorn: balance your checkbook, read your IRA statement, get energy conserving light bulbs for your lamps, talk business
ME/SU:
When the planet of communication travels with the light and energy of the Sun, communication takes center stage. Some minds are ‘heated up’ while some are just mentally preoccupied with thoughts of this and that. Correspondence and busy-ness are common, as are experiences of transitory happenings i.e. packages appearing on your doorstep. If you’ve something on your mind chances are you’ll say it. Which can be risky when the mind takes center stage and doesn’t have much perspective from the self.

1/27
Moon in Capricorn; Sun in Aquarius oppose Saturn in Leo; Jupiter in Scorpio square Neptune in Sagittarius
SU/SA:
One of the hardest times this month, life is hard and more than a little depressing. Be careful of working too hard, for you may feel your back breaking under an unrelenting burden. Leo and Aquarius sun signs experience pressure right now, sorry! Possibly choices or events appear, although perhaps not unexpected (they’ve been culminating since last summer) that cause you some worry. This too will pass, but until it does some practical decision-making is required. If finances are a problem, create a workable structure for yourself. Don’t expect cush room, you just won’t see it right now. But if you’re reading this ahead of time, do what you can to cushion the loneliness and isolation we all experience around this time. Invite a good friend or lover over with the intention of just being quiet together, perhaps lighting candles and reading silently while in the same room.
JU/NE: This is a longer term, less immediately noticeable yet hopeful aspect that will continue through September 2006. Like the book title My Year of Magical Thinking sums it up. It always helps to have hope, doesn’t it? I picture this aspect as a built in safety valve this year, for when things get too intense we can summon hope, faith and grace. Develop your spirituality. Replenish your soul with transcendent moments. If you’ve experienced timelessness in a sunrise, this is that- an effervescent, abiding hope.

1/28
Moon in Capricorn, Aquarius, dark of the moon
Dark of the moon is the night before the dawn. Certainly, it does feel this way. Energy is lower when less moonlight supports going within and getting quiet.
Moon mood, Aquarius: work on the computer or play with electronic gadgets, spend time with friends, find a human rights piece in the newspaper and follow it for awhile

That moody moon:
The moon changes signs every 2 ½ days. Our mood and perceptions subtly change, and if you’re sensitive, you can pick up on her moodiness via your own. Why are you cranky one day, optimistic the next? Many factors influence this, but pay attention to her for some constancy. Because although changeable, by aligning yourself with the activities associated with the sign she’s currently occupying, she will always point you in the right direction. You’ll experience inner flow and contentment by syncopating your daily rhythm with hers. You can easily plan your week by knowing what sign and phase she’s in. Many of us already do this without a calendar (women especially). The best way to feel her resonance is through non-resistance, allowing the sign she’s in to lead you to an intuitive knowing of “what’s right now.”

From new to full moon, she’s waxing. This is a good time to initiate. From full to new, she’s waning, decreasing in light. This is a good time to change your approach.

The Sun
by Mary Oliver

Have you ever seen
anything
in your life
more wonderful

than the way the sun,
every evening,
relaxed and easy,
floats toward the horizon

and into the clouds or the hills,
or the rumpled sea,
and is gone–
and how it slides again

out of the blackness,
every morning,
on the other side of the world,
like a red flower

streaming upward on its heavenly oils,
say, on a morning in early summer,
at its perfect imperial distance–
and have you ever felt for anything
such wild love–
do you think there is anywhere, in any language,
a word billowing enough
for the pleasure

that fills you,
as the sun
reaches out,
as it warms you

as you stand there,
empty-handed–
or have you too
turned from this world–

or have you too
gone crazy
for power,
for things?
