Rock Your Stars by Holiday Mathis

My dear friend and syndicated columnist Holiday Mathis has just published this absolutely astro-licious book, Rock Your Stars. And she’s so fresh. I’m not just saying this because I love her dearly but because she’s one of the few young voices of astrology that’s truly different (and we could use more of those). Holly’s voice sparkles. From the perspective of a modern gal with real world problems just like you and me, Holly uses the ancient art to expand her toolbox and rule her world. Her positive upbeat attitude is contagious – so you can finally drop that notion that your chart is heinous (or at least more heinous than anyone else’s). She says, “It may seem like others have better luck or destiny than you, but here’s the real truth: Your stars are only as lucky as you make them.”

Venus Loves Artist Jesca Hoop

“Her music is like going swimming in a lake at night.” -Tom Wait

Jesca Hoop was Tom Wait’s nanny, the legendary voice that sounds like he’s had one too many nights of whisky and Marlboro reds. As if that weren’t enough to pique your curiosity, when NPR first played her, her song was the most requested for two months running. What does this have to do with astrology? It’s admittedly incidental.

The Red Book has kickin’ Shakti Energy!

Sera Beak is just like you and me. And if she’s not, basically you want to be her after your done reading The Red Book.

“I want to find God in my own way, in my own time, and essentially, by my own self. And I have. She beats deep inside my chest. I see her reflected everywhere. She grows with me.”

“Yep, I’m a true modern devotee. I love the mystics, The Matrix, yoga and the White Stripes, meditation and designer jeans. In terms of cultural dialects, I am mulitlingual. I speak New Age and Aveda Skin care, Eastern philosophy and Elle magazine, Metaphysics and Hitachi vibrators. I love modern art and dinner parites, lavender chocolate and dirty maritinis, dancing and random road trips and hanging out with my girlfriends. My spirituality is real, alive and active, funky and fresh. It’s not separate from my daily life; rather, it’s so integrated and infused I can no longer separate the two.” [Read more…]

Anxious? Whipsawed with worry? Paranoid? Try Pronoia

“PRONOIA is a life manual for not just overthrowing the dictator within
(and so without) but more vital than this, a manual for creating an
intelligent, sexy and juicy alternative to the Big Should.” – Jessica Shepherd

That’s my official endorsement, appearing in Rob Brezsny’s book promotion for Pronoia. Why did I say this? OMGoddess! this book gives you permission to end all that unhealthy negative uptight thinking and unleash the wild, compassionate trickster you know in you are in your heart of hearts. (Apparently I can’t talk about this book without waxing lyrical, rowdy and poetic. I think there’s some kind of pro-love anarchy alchemical neurotransmitter thingy happening everytime I pick up Pronoia). The gist is: the world is conspiring to shower you with blessings. Think about it: it’s the ultimate conspiracy theory. The world could be full of drudgery, inhumanity, evil, violence and suck the life right out of you -or- the nastiness could be an invitation to be more JUICY, TRUTHFUL, PLAYFUL and ALIVE. Of all the un-truths Rob could rob from you, your dispirited worldview takes the biggest hit. In a good get all up-in-your-face-radical-on-your-worldview way.

“If you choose to become a practitioner of pronoia, your life will suck. It has to suck. Let me explain. As you cultivate the arts of gathering and bestowing the blessings that the universe is always conspiring to send your way, your life will suck in the best senses of the word. First, your life will suck in the same way that you use a straw to compel a thick milk shake to disobey gravity and squirt your mouth. Metaphorical translation: You’ll work hard to pull toward you the resources you need, perhaps even exterting yourself with a force that goes against the natural flow…” -RB

Read it and be changed.
