I field this question a bit. Health coaches are relatively new to the health scene. Why would you hire a health coach? What would we do? Imagine you visit your doctor and you receive lab results that indicate an issue. They give you instructive lifestyle advice like “lose weight” “lower your cholesterol” or “try stress reduction techniques” but that’s about all they can fit into your 20 minute visit.
After that, it’s just you and Dr. Google.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Dr. Google and use Dr. G for information-gathering, often. But have you ever spent hours researching your symptoms and worked your self into a state of anxiety over all the possibilities? Dr. Google is no substitute for a real human being with life experience and training.
This is where health coaches come in. It’s rare for anyone to get an hour to work on their nutrition and goals with a trained professional. As a health coach, I create a supportive environment that will enable you to achieve your health goals. I have studied all the major dietary theories and use practical lifestyle coaching methods to guide you in discovering which approach works best for you.
Most approaches to nutrition dwell on calories, carbs, fats, proteins. Instead of creating lists of restrictions and good and bad foods, I coach my clients to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and free of denial and discipline. I will guide you to find the food and lifestyle choices that best support you because no one diet works for everyone. Consider me your partner in health.
I know that compromised health can lead to feelings of alienation and powerlessness. Imagine having someone to regularly talk with about your struggles. Whether how not to get taken over by a food craving, how to make better choices, or reduce stress, I have tools to make your life easier. I help you to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable you to reach your current and future health goals.
About wellness coaching with Jessica
My wellness journey began at age 18 with a Chronic Fatigue diagnosis. It took years to become fully functional again. Then, at my Saturn Return at age 28, I sustained a whiplash injury that led to a Fibromyalgia diagnosis. I’ve gone into remission several times -once, for three years, with the help of an anti-inflammatory diet- but the condition is so far not reversible. My experience with chronic illness has been a real pain (pun intended), but it has also unlocked strengths and abilities.
When good health is a lifelong search, you get a lot of exposure to different healing modalities (if you’ve heard of it, I’ve probably tried it). And over the years I’ve learned that the biggest shifts don’t happen through miracle cures but through basic nutrition and lifestyle modifications. I have personal and client experience working with: adrenal fatigue, acne, candidiasis, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic urinary tract infections, depression, anxiety, panic, fibromyalgia, parasites, yeast infections, weight management, pre-diabetes, diabetes, digestive disorders, mood disorders and thyroid conditions. All of the above can be significantly healed and sometimes reversed through dietary and lifestyle shifts.
Whether we want to prevent illness, manage chronic illness or any stress-related disease, we need to learn exquisite self-care. We “learn” because self-care is taught, not innate to us at birth. EFT (emotional freedom techniques) is one self-care tool I consistently use, personally, for stress reduction and pain management… but the possibilities are endless. I’ve had EFT client successes with dramatically lowering blood sugar, discharging trauma, eliminating: cravings, anxiety, relationship triggers and more. Where other mind-body techniques fall short, EFT really works.
One of my favorite quotes about healing comes from a stubborn and wise lady who cured herself from terminal TB in the 1930’s and lived to be 106, Dr. Hazel Parcells, who said, “If you want to be healthy, you have to trade your wishbone for a backbone and get to work!” Sometimes it’s a bummer that it takes so much work to stay healthy, but if a 106 year old can do it, there’s no reason for you to not try.
I received my training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. My teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.
My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and my knowledge of different dietary theories, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.
I also have a few unique angles that distinguish me from other coaches. As a Steven Forrest trained astrologer, I may occasionally pull out your birth chart to see how the planetary cycles are influencing your well-being. This is no substitute for an in-depth astrology reading, but (if you are open to it) astrology may inform some of our work together. As said, I am an EFT practitioner, and learned both Emotional Freedom Technique(s) and Matrix Reimprinting at The Matrix Academy. This is my most exciting, innovative, health tool to date! I am happy to offer you the tools I’ve honed over the years.
Many of my clients say working with me has transformed their lives in surprising and unexpected ways. Read my full client testimonials right here.
